True devotion

In John 10:1-18 Jesus identifies Himself as the good shepherd. I have a hard enough time being an average under shepherd. I look back over my walk and all those times when I've failed and concerned myself with what was mine and nothing more. In 2008 China went all out and it was claimed that they have spent 42 billion dollars to make that the most expensive Olympic games in world history.
During the procession down the street walked a 7 foot 6 man by the name of Yao Ming who is a famous basketball player, and right next to him was a 3 foot tall 9 year old kid holding a torch. The kid's name is Lin Hau, and the interesting thing about him is this: In 2008 earlier in the year there was an earth quake that rummaged through the sechuan portion of china that killed 75,000 people. Lin Hau managed to unearth himself, and immediately dug out 150 schoolmates. When he was asked why he did what he has done, his response floored me. Young Lin Hau stated that he was the hall monitor, and that it was his duty to make sure that the other kids were safe. All this was done while the tremors were still going on  which made the effort all the more courageous. Jesus is the good shepherd- what's interesting about this statement is -as courageous as Lin Hau's efforts were, they were for children that would eventually grow up and go to college, get married, and make a mark on society  which would make them understandable. The shepherd gives his life for the sheep! Sheep not children sheep-the ones that have a reputation of being dumb confused animals, and the best that they could ever be is a coat that you may wear 3 months out of the year! If we truly believe the claims of Christ wholeheartedly, imagine the fruit that would come with this kind of devotion, and reckless abandon like this to his will. Lord I believe, forgive my unbelief!
